As a KJ who has purchased discs from SoundChoice, you are most likely familiar with this proviso on each disc:

WARNING:  THIS MATERIAL IS PROTECTED BY FEDERAL COPYRIGHT LAWS. UNAUTHORIZED DUPLICATION, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE OR BROADCAST IS A VIOLATION OF APPLICABLE LAWS.

With this in mind, the casual karoke family singer could not bring a disc they purchased to an outside venue for play in a karaoke bar by a KJ/DJ.   The KJ/DJ can only play the music that he or she has LICENSED from Sound Choice.  However, we propose the following solution. 

• We are in the process of creating a list of popular karaoke songs that are only made by SOUND CHOICE.  ANYONE may contribute to this list.

• As the list builds, we will begin to create our OWN version of these songs for FOR USE BY A DJ OR KJ ONLY.   Should you need further information, please contact us

• Creating our version of specific songs will still require licensing fees which will pass to the purchaser of our discs. These discs will be re-creations and not the original artists but will cost a fraction of other manufacturers discs.

• For those wondering about playing out, a representative of BMI states that a DJ/KJ can play karaoke as long as the ESTABLISHMENT IN WHICH he/she is playing has a license from BMI, ASCAP, or SESAC.

• If you wish to make your OWN discs that we CAN play, you must obtain a license from the HARRY FOX AGENCY:  http://www.harryfox.com/.  A long term contract is NOT required.
